Grammar Translation Method

Today, each one of us is going to impersonate a famous person, and the best part of it? We are going to play Who wants to be a millionaire! This class is about Harold doing a microteaching about Grammar Translation Method, “… This method was originally used for the purpose of helping students read and appreciate foreign language literature, it was also hoped that through the study of grammar of the target language, students would become more familiar with the grammar of their own native language and that this familiarity would help them speak and write better” (Freeman, 1986)

Although Harold were doing some sort of simultaneous translations during the game –when we answered a question in English, he translated it to Spanish and the other way around- we did not developed any reading or writing skills because we did not approach our target language through detailed analysis of its grammar rules. He was not being totally faithful to the method, the lack of word list or dictionary in our translation activity made the translation lose the accuracy that Freeman was emphasizing .
