Tales from
the classroom
Thursday!! Everything is going fine!
I got to university really early, so I had so time to talk with some class mates about personal stuff. When the teacher came into the classroom, we could tell he was a little sick, but smiling, as usual…

To begin the day, Harold showed us the targets of the day, which I think, are going to be really useful for all of us, as teachers, the rest of our careers! There were three targets: 1. to provide future language teachers with a framework for lesson planning; 2. to get used to lesson-plan formats; and 3. planning a lesson with a literature piece.

To start with, the teacher built, along with the students, a list regarding what is essential to a lesson plan. It was not as easy as I thought it was going to be! There are a lot of things you don’t usually take into account! After ten minutes of guessing, we came out with a list of 10 essential items. Then, Harold displayed a typical lesson plan format on the board, and began to explain each part, so we won’t miss or misunderstand anything from the format.

The following activity was as challenging as the one before: it seemed easy, but… it took the rest of the class and two more hours of work to finish it! We were given a blank lesson plan format and asked to fill it out. To do so, we needed to work with a piece of literature given to us the class before. In my case, I had to work with “Buzzy Bee”, so we thought about creating a plan to teach new vocabulary about the things you can find in the garden.

Unfortunately, time went up… so we had to take the formats home…
